Oxford Bibliographies Online offers exclusive, authoritative research guides combining the best features of an annotated bibliography and a high-level encyclopedia. This resource includes bibliography citations for books, journals and articles, web resources, multimedia, and primary source documents.
The library currently subscribes to the Islamic Studies, Medieval Studies, and Military History bibliography collections.
There are a number of ways you can locate bibliographies useful for your topic in OBO:
Choose a topic from the alphabetical list. These will generally be fairly broad, covering time periods, a single war, an individual, or even topics like Armored Warfare.
Here are links to a few of the most useful topics for HI 362:
Navigate an individual topic's bibliography using the "In This Article" list on the left as needed or use the search box on the left to search within the bibliography/article.
If you find a citation in the Oxford Bibliographies article for an item that you'd like to use in your research project, you can use WorldCat Discovery to quickly check the Library's collections for the item. Click the + next to the "Find this resource" bolded words beneath the citation (shown below) and then click on the WorldCat Discovery logo.
The link will open a basic search page in a new tab. Copy the title of the book or article and paste it into the search box. (Tip: use quotation marks to search for the title as a phrase.)
Searches for a book title will likely return results for book reviews published in journals and magazines. Use the Format filter to limit your results to books.
To expand your search beyond our collections, select Libraries Worldwide under the Held By filter.
If you're able to visit the library in person, you can request print book from libraries worldwide by clicking the title to open the item details, then the Request through Interlibrary Loan button.
