The Executive Director of Library, Archives, and Museum serves as Norwich University’s Copyright Officer and current Chair of the LAM Intellectual Property/Copyright Committee. Please contact the Chair if you have questions about copyright, need help making a good faith fair use evaluation or need to contact the University regarding use of copyrighted materials.

The information on this page and in the FAQs are guidelines based on our experience and continuing education. None of us are lawyers and none of this information constitutes legal advice!

Recommendations that will help Norwich University employees legally use a variety of protected works for curricular purposes.

Faculty Responsibility

Things like putting photocopies on reserve in the library, making copies of an article for class, and reading from a novel in class all require making a fair use determination. The onus is on faculty to abide by copyright law and exercise our rights as educators under fair use.
