Get Started with Civil Engineering Resources

This guide is designed to provide you with an introduction to the online resources you will be utilizing throughout the MCE program.

About the ASCE Research Library

The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Research Library is a comprehensive online tool for locating articles of interest across all disciplines of civil engineering. The Research Library allows you to search almost 20,000 journals articles and conference proceedings. However, the Kreitzberg Library is only subscribed to specific journals that are part of the Research Library.:

Conducting a Search Step 1

To start searching, look for the magnifying glass icon at the top of the website that says Search underneath it.

Conducting a Search Part 2

The screenshot examples below search for articles with the keywords steel and temperature.

  • I used two keywords connected with a Boolean operator.
  • I used the Boolean operator AND to connect my keywords.
  • Click the search button to start searching for results.

Type in your keywords and separate them with a Boolean operator like AND. Click the search button to start searching.

Reviewing Search Results

  • Results are sorted by relevance with the most relevant articles listed at the top.
  • You can access the articles that have a Full Access button.
  • To access an article, click the title link.
