It is still July, but the Archives are already preparing for homecoming! We will have extended hours that we will announce soon and have been working on both physical and digital exhibits. In honor of our theme, Homecoming and Commencement: A Celebration of Tradition Through the Decades, we have been busy digitizing negatives from events in 1970, 1980, and 1990. What is apparent from looking at the series is that styles may change, but the joy and pride of the graduates, their families, and the alum returning decade after decade is consistent.
Our Norwich University Photograph Collection contains negatives, prints, and digital media from NU’s long history, with contributions from Reuben McIntosh, Northfield’s first professional photographer, to the prolific Homer Smith who served the university as a photographer for 30 years. Only a small fraction has been digitized. This collection takes dedication to explore due to the challenges of viewing negatives, but the images contained within are invaluable.
