  • Students will be able to explain how books can be used to begin the research process.
  • Students will be able to understand the key differences between scholarly (or academic) and popular books and e-books.
  • Students will be able to successfully locate books on a specific research topic.
  • Students will be able to utilize different search functions and filtering options in the Kreitzberg Library’s catalog.

Navigating the Book Stacks - Full-Length Version [Approximately 35 minutes long]

After this activity, your students should feel comfortable searching for specific books in the Library's online catalog as well as finding specific books on our bookshelves (aka stacks).

  • The full-length version of this activity has students search for a specific book in our catalog, locate the Call Number of the book, and then retrieve the book from the stacks.

Finding & Using Books [Approximately 30 minutes long]

This activity will orient your students on how to find and use books and e-books in the Library's online catalog. We will cover how to use a book as a great starting point for a research topic, and we'll also cover how to find a specific book as well as how to find books on a general topic.

Navigating the Book Stacks - Shorter Version [Approximately 25 minutes long]

After this activity, your students should feel comfortable searching for specific books in the Library's online catalog as well as finding specific books on our bookshelves (aka stacks).

  • The shorter version of this activity provides small groups of students with a specific book and Call Number that they must locate in the stacks and bring back to the classroom.
